From PNG to SVG, with a bit of geometry
I got the Flaem logo as a PNG, but I needed a vector for the whole logo family: favicons, app icons, banners.
Instead of tracing pixels, I measured the shape. It turned out to be a circle rotated by 45 degrees, the tip sitting where the tangents meet, and the inner arcs being quarter circles with a radius of R/√2. Four paths, and the only difference from the original was single pixels along the edges.
The part that did not fit was more interesting. The inner arcs drifted 2-3 pixels away from perfect circles. When the designer sent the original vector, it made sense: they are Bézier curves, not arcs. So I will rebuild the logo family on his file, and my reconstruction stays as a spare variant.
Lesson for next time: ask for the source first, measure second.
